Fulfilling the Vision of an Outstanding Retirement Community.
Our Mission.
We strive to empower people to lead meaningful lives as they age, uplifting everyone in our community, including our team members, residents’ families, and community partners.
Our Vision.
We are shaping a future where getting older is embraced as an opportunity to thrive. Aging is another stage in this beautiful journey of life, and it is as important (and as fun) as any other.
Our Values.
We use our voices to bring clarity, to strive for better and to champion fresh ideas, which in turn inspire others to open up.
We try a little harder and stretch ourselves a little further. We’re proud of how rewarding a little extra effort can be.
We care for those around us, and we’re aware of the positive impact our actions have when we act with empathy and generosity of spirit.
We have empathy for each other. Alone we can only accomplish so much—together we can move mountains.

We put our money where our mouth is.
As a non-profit organization, our values are at the heart of everything we do. We fully stand behind them by keeping our earnings within the organization, with no responsibility to shareholders.
- La Vida Llena falls under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. According to the IRS, a 501(c)(3) organization “must be organized and operated exclusively for exempt purposes” and “none of its earnings may inure to any private shareholder or individual.”
It’s about the journey—and the destination
We’d like to think we have a pretty unique backstory. In 1979, four local churches – St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral, First Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church, and St. Paul Lutheran Church – came together to create a nondenominational retirement community for those looking to live a full, active life.
Over the years, we’ve grown into a thriving community of folks constantly seeking interesting experiences. The community has more than doubled in size and expanded to be a full Life Plan community with Independent Living, Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing and Memory Support. While we’ve won awards for our community and services, we’ve never strayed from what we do best: providing a welcoming and down-to-earth environment where residents can keep exploring life’s greatest adventures.

Timeline
Humble beginnings (1983)
From the beginning, La Vida Llena helped residents live an active, enriching lifestyle, including plenty of opportunities to pursue their interests and enjoy all Albuquerque has to offer. When the community opened its doors, it had 187 Independent Living residences and 44 Skilled Nursing units.
The first expansion (1986)
La Vida Llena upgraded to a Life Plan community, offering even more on-site options for care. These included the addition of 45 Assisted Living apartments as well as Mi Casa, a 16-unit Memory Support community.
The Casitas (1988)
Eight Casitas were added, providing the same perks of other La Vida Llena apartments with the comfort of townhome living.
Alta Vista (1994)
The Casitas were so successful that we built more. La Vida Llena added 14 homes as well as a new building, Alta Vista, with 27 additional Independent Living apartments.
Nueva Vista (2012)
For the second year in a row, La Vida Llena received a 5-star rating from the Department of Health. The aptly named and award-winning Nueva Vista building opened, providing even more housing with sweeping views of the Sandia Mountains and the Rio Grande Valley. To improve the community’s Life Plan services, we converted 20 Independent Living apartments into Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing and Memory Support apartments.
Renovation on main campus (2014)
For the fourth year in a row, La Vida Llena received a 5-star rating from the Department of Health. Residents were eager to do and experience even more, and we listened. We added more dining options as well as a new pool, library, and movie theater, allowing residents to enjoy life more fully than ever before.
The 6000 Building (2021)
Was this Independent Living building named after the fact that there are 6,000 good reasons to live there? Maybe, but we’ll never tell. In addition to the new building, common area renovations and the addition of more private Skilled Nursing apartments further increased resident quality of life.
La Vida Llena joins PRS (2023)
La Vida Llena joined the Pacific Retirement Services (PRS) family—an organization with a six-decade legacy of operating award-winning Life Plan communities. As a non-profit leader managing more than 50 senior living organizations across multiple states, PRS is deeply committed to people-first communities, with nearly 10,000 staff and residents nationwide. This partnership reinforces La Vida Llena’s mission and ensures residents will continue to enjoy exceptional care and enriching experiences for generations to come.
